![]() ![]() I especially feel that this book is perfect for GLBTQIA teens, who will see a strong agender protagonist they can relate to. Such recipes include Today's Gender, Shiny New Scones, and Honest pie. ![]() The recipes interwoven through this magical tale sound delicious and have hints of humor throughout. I loved the idea of The Proud Muffin, a safe place for the GLBTQIA community. ![]() Syd is a determined, talented baker whose edible delights in the bakery lead to real magic. What worked: I totally enjoyed this fun YA rom com contemporary fantasy with strong GLBTQIA characters. Through this all, Syd finds that maybe the magic isn't really in the pastries, but within one's self. Seventeen-year-old agender Syd loves baking, but when her brownies set off a string of breakups-including her own-she comes up with a plan to get people back together such as baking delicious treats like the Very Sorry Cake. ![]()

![]() What inspired you to write 'Whispers of War'?Īs far back as I can remember I was an avid reader, so it was only a matter of time before I started writing. ![]() The bad guys’ side is just as diverse: You have the Unmen, basically advanced Neanderthals gone psycho Urkroks, gigantic rock orgres with an attitude Graniants, an ancient race of intelligent stone giants various demons, including the ultra-powerful Kuarokur and perhaps the most interesting of all, the Bloodspawn, a newer race, great grey giants of mysterious origin, refreshingly intellectual, almost philosophical, yet still extremely warlike…with cool tatts and rocking hair. Aside from Men, you will find fairly familiar fantastic folk: There are the Athair, who are like a cross between angels and Elves there are the Daradur, a fan favourite, who are like great big Dwarves on ’roids and meth and then there’s the Fiannar, who are the descendants of Athair that became mortal. There are all sorts of peoples, races and beasts in ‘Whispers of War’. ![]() ![]() What kind of monsters and mythical beings do we expect to find in your novel? ![]() ![]() I had a little trouble with Cicero’s accent as it was a bit hard to pin down and at times seemed hard to distinguish from Tom’s. ![]() There are side characters with a variety of accents that are also handled nicely, though Noah’s voice seems to change a bit throughout the story. Tom’s Irish accent is excellent and really holds strong throughout the book. The book takes place in New York in the late 1800s, so a lot of the characters are recent immigrants. The book is narrated by Tristan James and he handles the story and the variety of accents quite well. Before you go too far, you can check out my review of the book here to get a summary of the plot, as well as my thoughts on the story. So I was really excited to get a chance to revisit Hexbreaker, this time in audio. I have adored all three of the books so far in this Hexworld series and totally recommend them whole heartedly. I absolutely love this world she has created with witches and familiars and mysteries, all in the combination of historical and paranormal that Hawk does so well. ![]() ![]() Hawk, and I am particularly excited about her latest series about the Metropolitan Witch Police and their familiars. I am a total fan girl of all things Jordan L. ![]() ![]() ![]() So if that were true, how, then, is creation of all that we see possible?īy creating with mind, says The Kybalion. It can not cease to be, and it cannot expand, for it is all. It is in everything, and everything is made of it. It composes everything and is everywhere. The principle states that “THE ALL”, as the book refers to source energy, or God if you prefer to call it that, is eternal and unchangeable. Quantum physics has been bending our concepts of reality for some time we are not new to this type of thinking, but what does it mean that everything is mental and composed of mind? “The ALL is MIND The Universe is Mental.” I will outline them here, noting the parts that had profound impacts on me, yet I urge you to pick up a copy – the one pictured here is the Definitive version and includes a great Introduction – for it’s wonderful not only in the simplicity and resonance of the content within it but also for the clarity with which these concepts are presented. The entirety of this book revolves around “The 7 Hermetic Principles”, ideas simple yet penetrating. Written by the mysterious “THREE INITIATES” I got very curious… The 7 Principles of Hermetic Philosophy ![]() I discovered this little giant book, first printed in 1908, when I read The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life, its author mentioning The Kybalion several times. So starts the first chapter of The Kybalion. “ The lips of wisdom are closed, except to the ears of Understanding.” ![]() ![]() A caste-based society where every member’s place is determined not by birth, but by his/her abilities.Ī society that is almost immortal due to the availability of somras, an anti-ageing potion, for all its members. A destiny which makes him a saviour and a god, and whose arrival has been prophesied in an ancient legend. The first book in the Shiva Trilogy, it introduces Shiva as an ordinary human being with an extraordinary destiny in store for him. ![]() The author of The Immortals of Meluha(Westland, pp.412, Rs.195), Amish, has no such inhibitions. Probably, that’s why many of his devotees do not think of Shiva’s origins - perhaps, the fact that Shiva is a God and is, therefore, eternal inhibits them from thinking about his beginnings. For millions he is a revered God, an ishta devta, worshipped in his myriad forms. Most Indians, and certainly all Hindus, know Shiva in all these forms and then some more. ![]() ![]() Is there a Kindle version?īoy, I hope not (and there’s not). As I said, I’ve only read small portions, but I can’t wait to finish it. The two corresponded continuously during his travels and she (wisely) kept all his postcards and letters, and I gather that she helped manage his proposals, as well. ![]() McCurry’s sister, Bonnie McCurry, wrote the book. In an age when we see thousands of photographs each day and everyone knows someone who is a photographer, Steve McCurry is a photographer everyone knows and everyone has seen his work. While that’s an important and striking photograph, it’s not the only noteworthy portrait he’s made and this book is chock full of moving photographs and the stories behind them. ![]() He’s well-known for his portrait of the “Afghan Girl, Sharbat Gula.” That portrait is included in the book, as well as a follow-up portrait made years later of the same woman. Nevertheless, Steve McCurry is a household name for his work in war-torn countries. There are almost no famous photographers, especially this century when photographs come and go before our eyes faster than we ingest their meaning. But you should have it dropped shipped to the recipient because if you get your hands on it, you won’t be able to put it down. This is a book you should buy for every photographer you know and probably everyone else, too. I’ve skipped around and read several sections and the writing is good and engaging - almost as engaging as the photographs. ![]() ![]() Normally, I’d read the entire book before writing a review, but this can’t wait. ![]() ![]() Hit the “Search“ button to find the most populated streets in that area, including properties and residents. Why am I stressing the importance of space in comics? Well that is because I ran into one this summer that utilized it in a way that I had never seen before.Īsterios Polyp is a comic written and drawn by David Mazzucchelli. However, with comics, it is space that juxtaposes one panel with the next.ĭid you ever wonder if there was a term for the tiny margin of empty space between panels? No? Well I am going to tell you anyways. But more importantly, with film, the way in which the images are juxtaposed with one another is through time, the chronology of the images as they get projected onto the screen, one after the other. You are forced to see frame after frame while watching film but with a comic, your eyes can wander. The comic is far more voluntary than film is. McCloud notes that the difference between comics and film is the way in which individual images are juxtaposed. Film is just a series of images, a comic in slow motion if you will. ![]() But isn’t film also sequential? Scott McCloud talks about how film is similar if you look at the film itself, and not when it is projected and played. ![]() ![]() Will Eisner famously used the term sequential art to describe comics. ![]() |
